Application for a new Public House in
The news that well-known Lymington landmark

Any new commercial investment that brings vitality and economic activity to the High Street and helps to meet the needs of local people is to be welcomed. Weatherspoon's pubs tend to be used mainly by young people who deserve to have their needs catered for as well as other sections of the community. Opportunities for young people to enjoy themselves in Lymington need to reflect those available in other similar communities which may not be the case at the moment.
However we note that local people have expressed concerns about the likelihood of such a large premises becoming a public house so near to the church and the adjacent graveyard.
Speaking about the proposal Lymington Society Press Spokesman Don Mackenzie said:
We also have reservations about what may well become an extremely large "destination" public house being developed so near to an area that people may feel is inappropriate.
Large "destination" pubs, such as this premises may become, have been associated in the past with very late night licences and public order concerns, as we see regularly on TV news programmes.
Therefore whilst welcoming in principle investments which bring new facilities, jobs and economic activity to the town, the Society hopes that the authorities will not allow a very late licence for an establishment which could cause problems for those living in the town centre from noise and nuisance of inebriated revellers in the early hours.
If permission is given, we hope that the authorities will be prepared to monitor the effect of this establishment very closely and take immediate steps to impose strict licensing conditions should any public order concerns arise.
