Weekly Planning Search - Nov 18th 2009

94796 - 8 CLINTON ROAD

registration date:  10/11/2009

Location:  just inside junction with William Road, off Ellery Grove

Proposal:  First floor side extension; rear conservatory

Consulted:  neighbours 6, others 3

Comment:  A comparatively modest extension to a substantial two-storey house.   Given the density of the local housing the number of neighbours consulted seems small.   None has objected so far  .  .  .

Recommendation:  No action

94171 and 94175 - THE LODGE, 14 CHURCH LANE (Listed building in Conservation Area)

registration date:  06/11/2009

Location:  Next below Church Lane House on the W side of Church Lane

Proposal:  Conservatory; 2 rear dormers; internal alterations (Application for Listed Building Consent)

Consulted:  neighbours 3, others 5

Comment:  Together, these two applications look like a sensible proposal to restore the rather crudely altered one-time servants' quarters of Church Lane House, at present a separate dwelling, to something more in the style of the original, while reuniting it with Church Lane House next door.

Recommendation:  If I was better informed on the complexities of Listed Building Consent I would be inclined to recommend a letter of support - can anyone help?   Otherwise,  No action

94742 - ELGARS COTTAGE, ELGARS COURT, HIGH STREET (Listed building in Conservation Area)

registration date:  10/11/2009

Location:  Rear of 16 High Street, below Elgars Court - the Cottage butts on to the side of Stanwell House Hotel

Proposal:  Move internal wall; new staircase (Application for Listed Building Consent)

Consulted:  neighbours 10, others 7

Comment:  This is a complicated tale.   The plan is to detach the cottage, which not long ago was converted as an extension of the hotel which was unsuccessful, into a separate unit.   The work had already started before the owner learned that a fresh planning application was required, so this one is retrospective.   It looks unobjectionable if all the rules governing such chages to listed buildings can be satisfied.

Recommendation:  No action - but other views welcome

94728 - CORBIN COURT, EFFORD WAY, PENNINGTON

registration date:  11/11/2009

Location:  Council-owned sheltered housing block near SE corner of Pennington

Proposal:  Ramp & step access to front & side; entrance doors; replace fire exit doors; relocate disabled parking; hardsurfacing

Consulted:  neighbours 63, others 13

Comment:  The cynical might argue that this is another example of how we now gold plate everything by imposing ever more expensive regulatory demands in the name of elf'n'safety - and so bankrupt ourselves as a nation.   Of course I would never suggest that.

Recommendation:  No action
