Release following REDROW Public Meeting on April 3rd 2011
The
Lymington Society was pleased to be able to host a well-attended meeting
last night organised to allow local residents
to hear about the latest developments on the Bridge
Road site in Lymington. Speaking after the Meeting
Don Mackenzie the meeting organiser said.
“We
are very grateful to Redrow for attending our Public Meeting last night
and presenting their current thoughts on the development they would like
to see on this unique site in the heart of Lymington. We are also very grateful
to the Head of Planning for the NFDC Mr Chris Elliott and to Councillor
Chris Treleaven, Portfolio Holder for Planning for their contributions
to the meeting.
We
would very much agree with the Redrow Director Barry Styles when he
said that with the current designs that they have “lost their way” and we welcomed his announcement that Redrow would be thinking
afresh on how to build-out the site. We in particular welcome the decision
to propose a halving of the numbers of units on the site and a change to
a scheme which includes family houses.
There
of course remain important concerns about the best style
of buildings for the site, about traffic and about the number of much needed
social homes on the site. Hopefully with goodwill on all sides a scheme
that brings together all concerns can be developed over the next six months.
The
Society has been pleased to have played a part in moving the debate on to
this new stage and look forward to working with Redrow and the NFDC Planners
to try and achieve the best outcome for the community
on this wonderful site.”
