£1 MILLION FOR NEW LYMINGTON
LIBRARY & REGISTER OFFICE

Hampshire County Council has earmarked £1 million in its budget to
enable the old Cannon Street school buildings in Lymington to be
converted to provide improved library and registration services in
the New Forest.

The conversion of the attractive Victorian building, which currently
houses the divisional library headquarters, will provide a much
needed replacement library as well as a new register office,
including a marriage room.

Welcoming the decision by the County Council's Land Sub Committee to
allocate
£1 million from this year's capital budget to redevelop the Cannon
Street site, the Chairman of the Recreation and Heritage Committee,
Councillor Alan Rice, said:

"This is wonderful news and a big step forward to fulfil our
ambition to provide the people in the Lymington area with splendid
new facilities - not only a brand new library, but also the
facilities provided by the divisional office of the library service
and the school library service.

"Also, of particular significance, will be the provision of a new
register office, skilfully designed by the County Architect to gain
the maximum benefit from the delightful old school building - much
loved by so many local residents."

The Leader of the County Council, Councillor Freddie Emery-Wallis,
said: "The Land Sub Committee was delighted to be able to set aside
the £1 million to provide Lymington with a splendid new library and
register office."
